The WON, Hands Down Interclub, Irish Open, WKC Nationals

The WON - This is a great competition every year, with the best UK fighters and also a lot of international fighters. We came away with 1 x GOLD, 3 x SILVERS, 3 x BRONZE!

Hands Down Interclub - A great local competition for our novice and intermediate fighters. We always have a good day, this time coming home with 6 x GOLDS, 2 x SILVERS, 3 x BRONZE!

Irish Open - The biggest competition in the world. Always an amazing weekend away with the team (pic above)! We came home with 2 x GOLDS, 2 x SILVERS, 1 x BRONZE!

WKC Nationals - This is the qualifiers for the WKC World Championships, this year being held in Orlando, Florida in November. We took a small team, and unfortunately most of the guys just missed out on qualifying, but this has made them even hungrier for it next year! Massive congrats to Rachel, Craig H and Craig C who all qualified. We came home with 2 x GOLDS, 2 x BRONZE!

The first week of classes in 2017 have been fantastic. Everyone has come back with a great atmosphere and work ethic and the classes have been buzzing. We couldn't ask for anything better after the Christmas break.

We have our first competition class this Sunday (15th Jan) at Wallace Fields Infants which we are super excited about! If you are serious about competing make sure you're there. We've got lots to work on and lots of competitions to discuss!

The gradings were a great way to finish off the year. We are super proud of everyone who passed over the last weekend in November. They were some tough gradings for the Juniors and Adults!

We then finished off the year with our famous Christmas parties, which were brilliant as always.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support us and make our Absolute family grow.

What a week! We had 5 of Team Absolute attend the WKC World Championships last week in Dublin, Ireland.

The competition itself was brilliantly run. It was organised, friendly and full of fantastic people and competitors from all over the world. They put on seminars with some of the top fighters, extra training sessions and also entertainment for the juniors every evening.

First out of our group to fight was Joseph, aged 9. He competed in the Boys under 10 years -25kg point fighting division. Straight away we saw a high standard from these kids, but Joseph was so relaxed and just couldn't wait to get out there. He won two fights with some fantastic decision making and techniques, putting him through to the final at the end of the week.

Next up was Craig E. He fought in the Mens -75kg light contact division. He had a tough fight, gave it 100% but unfortunately came out with the loss this time. His opponent went on to win the division later in the week. Craig came away with a bronze medal.

We then had Joseph who was also competing in light contact. He got called up for an unexpected fight on the Wednesday, but still remained completely calm, went out there and fought great. He won the decision which put him through to another final on Friday.

Craig and I were up next but unfortunately let the occasion get to them and didn't perform to the best of their ability. The both lost with close fights, myself coming away with a bronze medal. Jess was also up on Wednesday and again like Joseph was completely relaxed. She went out and had two great fights, listening to us completely and winning comfortably. This put her through to the final on Friday also.

Joseph's point fighting final was up first on Friday. It was one of the hardest things to watch as a coach and for Brad, as a parent. He was calm and confident, and his performance was amazing. He fought intelligently and won in complete style, finishing his fight with a spinning kick to the head. WORLD CHAMPION. Emotions were running high for all of us, it was one of the best feelings for us as a coach, for Brad as a parent, and definitely for Joseph as the winner!
He was then up again for his light contact final, fighting an English opponent. It started off quite close in the first round, but Joseph pulled away in the second round for another victory. Joseph came home as a 2 x WKC World Champion. We couldn't be prouder.

Last to fight was Jess in her point fighting final. It's always good to be able to rise to the occasion and in the final thats exactly what she did. It was 100% her best ever performance and she blew the other girl away. She also won comfortably and came away with a WORLD TITLE!

We could not be prouder of Joseph, Jess and Craig E this week. We are so happy with what they have achieved already in their kickboxing careers. The support from the rest of the club at home was amazing, we are so proud of what we have built. Its the experiences from a week away like that, that will stay with you forever. We are closer as team mates and friends, and we also made some great new friends from across the seas. Bring on the qualifiers for next year, and hopefully we will be taking a bigger team to Orlando, Florida in 2017.

The Bristol Open is the biggest competition in the U.K. seeing all of Britain's top fighters as well as many international teams. It's a competition that is a MUST for us to attend.
The competition started with Light Contact on Saturday where we had a small team of 4 fighters. The standard is always high and the most of the guys fought great. Craig Edmunds came back with a Silver in the Mens Advanced -74kg which is a massive achievement, we are so proud of him!
On Sunday we had the Point Fighting sections, and had a bigger team of 12. Again everyone fought well. We came back with a Bronze from the novice ladies section, a Bronze from the intermediate mens section, a Bronze from the mens vets section and Craig Harrington brought back a Silver from the Mens Advanced -84kg division.
It's always great to see our team improving and competing with this high a standard considering we are still quite new on the circuit. We also like to remind everyone that the best thing you can learn from competitions is to not give up. We are so proud of everyone who goes out there and gives it there best every time.

Bring on Bristol Open 2017 - lets beat our results Team Absolute!

We had a great day at the Chessington Interclub yesterday. The morning started off a little bit slow, I think because it was the first competition back after the summer break, but by the end of the day we were doing fantastic. As always we had a great crowd and vibe amongst the team.

We took 19 fighters and came back with 7 Golds, 7 Silvers and 6 Bronzes!! A few people had major breakthroughs yesterday, its great to see so many people improving. We also had a few people having to step up from novice to intermediate, and they went out there and gave it their all, some of them even placing!

Remember, the greatest reward of tournaments and martial arts in general isn't in the trophies. Sometimes your greatest fights are ones you lose. If you didn't get the result you wanted yesterday, get back to training, work on the things you need to improve and be better for next time.

The next Chessington Interclub will be in February, watch the calendar for more details.

This weekend we have the Bristol Open, watch this space to see how the team get on!!
